    Magnetotransport of coupled electron-holes

    The carriers in InAs-GaSb double quantum wells are hybrid ``electron-holes''. We study the magnetotransport properties of such particles using a two-component Keldysh technique, which results in a semi-analytic expression for the small-field current. We show that zero temperature current can be large even when the Fermi energy lies within the hybridization gap, a result which cannot be understood within a semiclassical (Boltzmann) approach. Magnetic field dependence of the conductance is also affected significantly by the hybridization of electrons and holes.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Assessment of the recreational potential of the forest territory of the Sverdlovsk region

    The purpose of this study is to present our vision of assessing the recreational potential of the territory (RPT) for its effective management. We suggest using this territory assessment method, which consists of two main stages: assessment of the recreational component of the natural environment and assessment of the necessary amount of investment to use the recreational biodiversity of the territories.The article analyzes the approaches and presents the results of a comprehensive assessment of the recreational potential of the forest lands of the Sverdlovsk region. Created a map ranking the Sverdlovsk region according to the results of research with application for developing a comprehensive assessment of RPT on the methods, developed on the basis of the theory of "games with nature": the method of structured comparison of RPT on the Hurwitz criterion, aspiring to the maximum and to identify the factors dominating the impact from the application of the Wald criterion. Based on the conducted research on the analysis of the influence of forests on the formation of recreational characteristics, the authors obtained weighted average generalized coefficients of recreational attractiveness of forests of different types in the forest management areas of the Sverdlovsk region and identified 10 forest-cadastre areas in the Sverdlovsk region. This paper also presents a developed and tested method for a comprehensive assessment of the recreational potential of forest lands in the territory of the Sverdlovsk region in order to attract investment. Preliminary investment volumes for the development of the Sverdlovsk region's RPT (based on the cost of forest biodiversity) are presented.     Evaluation of Riparian Tree Cover and Shading in the Chauga River Watershed Using LiDAR and Deep Learning Land Cover Classification

    River systems face negative impacts from development and removal of riparian vegetation that provide critical shading in the face of climate change. This study used supervised deep learning to accurately classify the land cover, including shading, of the Chauga River watershed, located in Oconee County, South Carolina, for 2011 and 2019. The study examined the land cover differences along the Chauga River and its tributaries, inside and outside the Sumter National Forest. LiDAR data were incorporated in solar radiation calculations for the Chauga River inside and outside the National Forest. The deep learning classifications produced land cover maps with high overall accuracy (97.09% for 2011; 97.58% for 2019). The most significant difference in land cover was in tree cover in the 50 m buffer of the tributaries inside the National Forest compared to the tributaries outside the National Forest (2011: 95.39% vs. 81.84%, 2019: 92.86% vs. 82.06%). The solar radiation calculations also confirmed a difference between the area inside and outside the National Forest, with the mean temperature being greater outside the protected area (outside: 455.845 WH/m2; inside: 416,770 WH/m2). This study suggests that anthropogenic influence in the Chauga River watershed is greater in the areas outside the Sumter National Forest, which could cause damage to the river ecosystem if left unchecked in the future as development pressures increase. This study demonstrates the accurate application of deep learning for high-resolution classification of river shading combined with the use of LiDAR data to estimate solar radiation reaching the Chauga River. Techniques to monitor riparian zones and shading at high spatial resolutions are critical for the mitigation of the negative impacts of warming climates on aquatic ecosystems

    Results of hydrological studies and channel analysis of the Ganges (Padma) River at the construction site of the “Rooppur” NPP

    This work presents the results of research on channel processes in the Padma River (Republic of Bangladesh) at the construction site of the “Ruppur” Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). The fluvial characteristics of the Padma River were presented, including: the water outflow regime, characteristics of anthropogenic impact on the river outflow and assessment of the present state of the channel and floodplain. The research was conducted based on field expeditions, during which data on morphology, dynamics, hydrological and hydraulic conditions for the formation of the floodplain-channel complex were collected. Moreover, the water discharges and suspended sediments, as well as the longitudinal profiles of the water level and the channel morphology were measured. The presented research has shown that comprehensive and planned regulation of selected sections of rivers could lead to the channel stabilization and support the rational use of water resources for different purposes, e.g. power plants, municipal purposes, etc. Moreover, detailed research on channel deformation in selected areas indicated the major role of natural factors (geological structure, the type of sediments delivered to the river, vegetation cover, etc.) in the past and present fluvial processes

    Magnetism and spin-orbit coupling in Ir-based double perovskites La(2x_(2-xSrx_xCoIrO6_6

    We have studied Ir spin and orbital magnetic moments in the double perovskites La2x_{2-x}Srx_xCoIrO6_6 by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. In La2_2CoIrO6_6, Ir4+^{4+} couples antiferromagnetically to the weak ferromagnetic moment of the canted Co2+^{2+} sublattice and shows an unusually large negative total magnetic moment (-0.38\,μB\mu_{\text B}/f.u.) combined with strong spin-orbit interaction. In contrast, in Sr2_2CoIrO6_6, Ir5+^{5+} has a paramagnetic moment with almost no orbital contribution. A simple kinetic-energy-driven mechanism including spin-orbit coupling explains why Ir is susceptible to the induction of substantial magnetic moments in the double perovskite structure.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figure

The dependence of the exciton binding energy upon the dot radius and the offsets is studied for different sets of electron and hole effective masses

    BLOOD LEVELS OF INTERLEUKIN-6 AND INTERLEUKIN-10 IN SERUM AND BIOMARKERS OF ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY IN ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME

    Certain correlations between changes of cytokine levels and kidney dysfunction, as well as their prognostic significance for development of acute kidney injury (АКI) in different clinical forms of ischemic heart disease (IHD) seem to be worth of further studies. The levels of IL-6 and IL-10 and their correlation with serum creatinine (sCr) and lipocalin levels in urine (u-NGAL) were studied in 98 IHD patients, of them 93 presented with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 5, with stable angina pectoris. ACS patients were found to have increased levels of IL-6, IL-10, sCr, u-NGAL. IL-6 and IL-10 contents proved to be increased in cases of non-ST-segment elevation ACS (NSTE-ACS), and during AKI development. According to serum creatinin levels, AKI was more frequently revealed in patients with NSTE-ACS. Urinary NGAL levels were found to be higher in ACS with ST segment elevation
